-THE CONFRONTING PROBLEMS
The United Nations estimated the world population would exceed 9.1 billion by 2050. In response to this trend, we embarked on an exploration of the possibilities of houses with extremely small area per capita.
-CHALLENGE
We want to design a house unit, whose maximum floor area is 15sqm. It should be able to satisfy the daily life of two people, and can receive two guests at the same time.
-SPACE STRATEGY
The idea was inspired by the thinking towards “space capsule” in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. As there is no gravity in space cabin, the floors, walls, ceilings and other conventional building elements become blurred, eliminating the waste resulted by the not used traditional upper interior space.
And we can roll the house in order to use all the space at the time we need.
Below is one possibility rolling space we design. We divide the house into 4 parts. 3 rollable parts as living room and bedroom and 1 fixed part as kitchen and rest room.
